Friday Aug 11, 2006

Sorry I haven't updated for a few days. It has been HOT and stormy here. Our phone and internet lines have been crazy. And today our swamp cooler broke. It was HOT HOT HOT. I still did some stuff around the house and tried to do a LITTLE exercise, but I was sweating buckets and got to the point where I just wanted to pass out, so I stopped.

I haven't lost any more weight by the scale. However, my clothes keep feeling looser. This doesn't make sense to me because my measurements are also exactly the same so I really can't explain my pants falling down.

I signed up for the remote weight loss service offered by Integrated Diabetes Services - owned by Gary Scheiner, author of Think Like a Pancreas.

I haven't had my first big meeting with them yet, but I did ask them some questions via email. Gary told me to ignore the scale and go by my clothes. He also told me that I was likely not only gaining muscle, but I was also getting heavier bones and increasing my blood supply. I did read that in a running book by Jeff Galloway. The book said that those things had to happen before you could become more of a calorie-burning machine, haha. So, I'll be patient. But I do notice I have to hike my pants up more often and sometimes if my hands are full, my pants start to slide down my butt and one day they actually fell down (luckily nobody was around!).

My gym has been having problems and they cancelled the water aerobics :( So I'm scouting new places. Bubba is starting school next week, so I'll end up with more time to exercise.

I took this week off from exercise. I was having a problem with my lower spine and one of my knees. My lower spine area was swollen and was throbbing. My knee was sore. I had this happen before when Bubba started to get bigger and wanted to be carried. My chiropractor fixed it. Now my chiropractor is no longer covered on my insurance...so he can't evaluate or treat it right now. I'm not sure if that is the problem (a bigger Bubba wanting to be carried) or if it's the running or both. So, I took the week off. According to Jeff Galloway's book on running, taking breaks like this every few weeks or couple months (can't remember which) is a good idea and you won't lose much conditioning in a week.

My spine has been so sore I haven't been able to walk either....but as soon as I can do that I will. I need the regular exercise for my glucose levels - which aren't so good!!

My doctor and I expected my glucose levels to go down as I started to exercise. If anything, they've gone up. So, he changed my oral medication and I'm going to be evaluated by an endocrinologist to see if I might actually have type 1.5 - meaning my pancreas is pooping out and I will need to go back on insulin. He has even suggested that I try to get an insulin pump!

He ordered new labs, so I'll be able to share those when the results come back. I'm really afraid to post my A1c. I wouldn't be surprised if it's around 8%!! Hopefully I'll see some improvements in my lipids. If not, I'll be pretty upset!

Anyway, I appreciate all the encouragement everyone has given me. This is extremely frustating. I want better results. I want it to actually look like I'm an active person. Instead I'm a big lumpy schmoo (you 80's people know what I'm talking about!). Sometimes I feel down and figure why try, but then I re-think my goals, priorities, inspirations, and pray - then my spirit is renewed.
