Rating: 5 Stars out of 5, July 2004 I am a klutz. At least once or twice a year I break something made out of glass. It'll scatter all over the floor and I spend a good amount of time sweeping, wiping, and scanning the area with a flashlight in the dark. Then we have to wear shoes for a good two weeks or else someone'll end up with a piece of glass in their foot. Sometimes I find little bloody pawprints the next day from one of the dogs having found a big piece. I am a type II diabetic and when I had to start insulin during pregnancy, I thought, "Oh no, something else to break all over the floor." In addition, I worried about how my insurance company would handle it since they strictly doled out a monthly dose and no more. Luckily I came across these little vial protectors at a diabetic supply store. They fit my Humalog bottles perfectly. My Lantus vial doesn't exactly fit - it's too long. I try to keep it in the protector with some extra tissue wrapped around it with mixed results. Maybe they make one for Lantus now. True to form, I've dropped my vials. Luckily they were in their vial protectors and they got nary a scratch. I highly recommend these vial protectors as a preventive measure if you are a slippery-fingered person like me. UPDATE: I just HAD to add this. The day after I wrote the above review, I was due to throw out my empty vial and insert the new one. Something I forget to mention in the review was that these protectors really hang on tight to your vials and it can sometimes be a pain in the neck to change them. I did not want to go through changing it yet, so I was using my new vial without the protector on it. I went to the fridge to get some insulin, took out my vial and dropped it. It did not crackle all over the place, thank goodness, but I lost the insulin inside it. With relief, I remembered my husband had just picked up a couple new vials for me at the store. I got the bag, opened it, and it had the wrong type of insulin in it! The pharmacy had refilled the wrong one. I had my hubby run to the store really quick to get me some more for my dinnertime dose. Unfortunately, my husband just started a new job and we are in between insurance plans. We don't start the new plan for three months. In the meantime, we had been advised to purchase an insurance plan for me while we were waiting, but try not to use it so we could get a discount when we cancelled it. Because of my diabetes the cost of this temporary plan is through the roof. So we paid for two new bottles out of our pocket. The cost? $130.00. Needless to say I will religiously put the vial protector on my bottles from now on.
