Rating: 4 out of 5 stars, July 2004 This was my very first book about diabetes and pregnancy. I purchased it in my first trimester. Although I had been a diabetic for about 10 years, I unfortunately did not know very much about diabetes, so this book was a lifesaver for me. It is a small book, about 75 pages, and is laid out very simply. The language and writing is also very understandable. Each section is very brief and gives a general overview of the subjects addressed. Although this book is aimed at type I, I think it would still be handy for any pregnant diabetic on insulin regardless of type. However, please note there is a similar book like this just for gestational diabetes. Here is the Table of Contents: Section 1 - Introduction Section 2 - How Your
Baby Develops Section 3 - Diabetes and Pregnancy Section 4 - More
About Pregnancy Section 5 - Birth
Control Because I was starting my pregnancy with admittedly little real knowledge of diabetes, let alone diabetes in pregnancy, this book was like a cool drink on a sweltering day. Upon finding out I was pregnant, I was buried under a mountain of information in the form of sheets, pamphlets, booklets, notes, etc. I was also hearing small lectures and being sent for diabetes education, and I was a little confused and overwhelmed. This book helped me to see the big picture and make sense of it all. I would highly recommend it for others in the same situation. However, if you already have some knowledge and are looking for something heftier, you might think this book is too simplistic. I have noticed that the reviews on Amazon.com reflect that thought - that it's more of a primer. If you are looking for a "meatier" book, look at this one: Medical Management of Pregnancy Complicated by Diabetes.
